LET'S MAKE FACES!

LET'S MAKE FACES! - FACCIAMO LE FACCE!

Here's a simple idea to build a quick Lesson on Adjectives describing facial expressions.
This will involve each and every students, normal, ADHD, special needs one or brainiacs.

STEP 1 (5 minutes)
Project a picture with different facial expressions (15 at least) and ask students to make faces.
100% FUN
Let them play and laugh at each other: you'll momentarily lose control of the class,, but NO PANIC! You'll soon regain it! I promise!

STEP 2 (10 minutes)
Give students a copy of the picture you projected (on paper or file sent) - divide them in groups of 3 maximum 4 people and ask them to find a NAME for each expression, in their mother tongue

STEP 3 (15 minutes)
Show them a list of words (in English) corresponding to the different emotions: they'll have to assign an adjective to each face.
They are allowed to use an online dictionary as http://www.wordreference.com/
Teacher checks the accuracy of the finished work.

STEP 4 (10 minutes)
Let's play!   Teacher asks students to "translate"  adjectives in facial expressions. Calling students one by one, they have to remember the list of names and the corresponding faces and reproduce them.

NOT TIRED?
 STEP 5 (optional)
You can ask your students to create their own "visual emotional chart", this way they'll have to find as many different adjectives as how many students there are  in a class.
20 students? = 20 adjectives = 20 pictures

Do try and let me know ;)

This past week, I had the chance to meet other teachers who work in CFP schools and share ideas, anecdotes, simple stories and experiences.. it was beautiful.
It's things like these that tell you to go on, with what you are doing.
Being a teacher in a vocational school here in Italy can be pretty frustrating, but meeting others who perfectly know how you feel, this helps!
Therefore, I'd like to thank those collegues who made my days in Monteortone, in particular Miriam, Michela and Simona among the others: hope to meet you again sooner or later

WHAT'S THE WEATHER LIKE?

There's an Italian Nursery Rhyme that goes like this "piove, piove, la gatta non si muove, accendi la candela e dici buona sera"; my mother used to sing it to me when it rained.  Hot Summer days haven't began yet and wasn't it for the calendar saying it's JUNE I'd have more than a doubt regarding the season we are in, but going back to lullabies and children songs, there are various Nursery Rhymes and  Poems on Rain and they can be used to practise the language in an easy funny way.

BIG DADDY - let's watch and discuss

Last days at school, time to relax! Who wants to sit down quietly and listen to new grammar explanations? Nobody!
Nice solution is watching a film in class; best would be English version full stop. But this is not the easiest solution. Let's use subtitles and enjoy this funny comedy, with unexpected food for thought.

Here's my activity: ESL - vocational school - Age group 14-16

BIG DADDY – Columbia Pictures (1999)
